Hi guys, I'm Colin, The Ragamuffin Therapist. I wrote to the prime minister in Downing Street, from my prison cell in Strangeways jail, asking how and why the famous and the wealthy get opportunities to go to private clinics for addictions, but ex-military veterans with obvious PTSD, get sent to prison. Two weeks later I was sitting in a private clinic, feeling like a ragamuffin among royalty, in a room with an addicted lawyer, paying the equate of 30,000 pounds for a 28-day programme. My programme lasted 17-weeks.
In  numerous therapy sessions, with depressed CEO’s, bored millionaires, addicted doctors, pop stars, trauma casualties, and TV personalities, I kept asking myself, 'how and why did I get to that situation?'                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   I can see now; I was a Ragamuffin Therapist under construction, and three decades later, during the 2021 Covid lockdown, a team of army psychiatrists and clinical psychologists asked if they coulld come to me  for 7-weeks, incognito, for lectures and debates on PTSD related substance abuse, chemical dependency, and domestic abuse within their military regime.                                                                                                                                                                                                                            And now, this quality of undeniable experience, is available to you and to your family, in  your own home, on your devices, at the simple cost of joing our 'Ragamuffin Therapist' community.

The Cornerstone of 180 Degree Mentorship

Colin & Deanna Garnett

Colin and Deanna Garnett proudly co-founded, co-directed and crafted the renowned Bethesda Recovery Homes on South Africa’s captivating Garden Route between 2001 and 2021.

Deanna, armed with a Law Degree from the University of Cape Town and experience in London's banking arena, skilfully managed Bethesda’s administration and finance team, infusing professionalism and meticulous attention to detail into our operations.

On the other hand, Colin, having been through 2 ½ years in various mental health care facilities for substance dependency, underwent a transformative journey. Coming out of a no-education context, his personal awakening in 1993 propelled him towards 30-years of freedom from chaos, marked by spiritual, academic and psychological growth, and re-entry into the education system at the age of 37.

In 2000, during his studies at Theological College, Colin met Deanna, a Bachelor of Law, whom he married 12 months later.

A Bachelor of Theology married to a Bachelor of Law, one from a crime and addiction background, the other, the daughter of a retired commisoner of police!

Some doubted, but their 24-years of marriage has forged an incredible balance of spiritual, psychological and relational stability.

During further studies in Child Psychology, Colin adopted principles from 'Parenting styles that can predispose children to becoming substance abusers', and adapted those principles for his relationships with their two children.  Georgia and Nathan are now extremely mature and emotionally honest young adults - key elements for addiction prevention. 180 Degree Mentorship can introduce you to and supervise you through the same course, and more.

Bethesda home care

The lives of Colin and Deanna Garnett, shaped by spiritual, psychological, and relational growth, became a catalyst for change in countless clients who came to them for help.

For over two decades, their marriage and parenting styles stood as a testimony to the wonders of therapeutic influence in releationships, inspiring the most beautiful parents out of the ugliest of conditions.

In 2021, due to global shifts from the pandemic, they closed the doors of Bethesda with deep sadness, but quiet satisfaction, secure in the knowledge that Team Bethesda left an incredible, international legacy.

And now, no longer confined to the four walls of a clinic, their journey continues as parents and mentors through 180 Degree Mentorship, offering convenient and affordable programmes to help and to guide individuals and families at every level of society.

Throughout their Bethesda pilgrimage, Colin and Deanna welcomed two key addiction specialists onto their team who then became the backbone of everything their amazing facility achieved. These two incredibly faithful servants to the industry, still working in the private sector, are also ready to strengthen and expand the 180 Degree Mentorship approach to developing Mentors for the future.

Our Goals for You :

From personal experience, Colin's conviction is: 'educational empowerment is the greatest form of therapy.'                                                                                                                                                                                                                        "The only real way to treat an addiction is to empower the entire family with realistic, understandable and applicable explanations of how and why things went so wrong. Education in and of itself is academia and can be very dangerous. Education seasoned with common sense illuminates, liberates, and takes a weight off the mind with life changing empowerment." (Cg)

With that in mind, Colin and Deanna have for many years worked in close partnership with Dr. John Crimmins of the Psychology Institute of Behavioural Change in Dublin, on a South African purpose built platform and website, where you can now find Educational Empowerment courses, with 180 Degree supervision, for all round development: www.areyouok.co.za

Are you ready to ask for help? Do your family members need life changing empowerment? Are You OK?
